This is one of my favorite Halloween classroom games — and one I’ve used for years with great success. It combines creativity and reading comprehension.
The concept is simple: students receive a worksheet with step-by-step drawing instructions. They must carefully follow each line to bring the Haunted London Bus to life! (And of course they can enhence it with anything else that comes to their mind additionally ✨)

During the game, students work independently, reading each instruction and drawing the described details onto their sheet. If someone finishes early, they bring their work to me for “🔎inspection.” I go through each instruction line and add a small red check next to any step that isn’t followed correctly.

If a student doesn’t understand something, I’m happy to clarify — but first, I always encourage them to guess and try their best on their own. That’s part of the fun (and language learning)!
To make the game even more exciting, I announce three winner categories:
- 🏆 The Most Precise Artist – the student who follows all instructions perfectly.
- 🎨 The Most Beautiful Picture – for the most polished, colorful, and creative artwork.
- 👻 The Spookiest Creation – for the scariest, most imaginative twist on the theme.
Each winner receives a small Halloween-themed candy — a simple but powerful motivator!
Usually, it takes around 20–25 minutes before the first student achieves a “perfect” drawing. Others enjoy spending extra time refining and decorating their work. I always keep plenty of crayons, pencils, and markers available so everyone can color freely and express their imagination.
This activity never fails to fill the classroom with laughter, chatter, and a touch of spooky magic. 🎃✨
