I tried explaining the differences between the patterns, dropping spontaneous hints about which one might be the Queen’s choice.
And then—one little smart cookie raises her hand and asks:
“Can we call Grandma?”
Every eye turned to me. I braced myself, quickly inventing an NPC grandma in my head, wondering how to guide the players without being too obvious.
“Yes, you can,” I replied—and handed her the air conditioner remote control. She took it with full determination and started “dialing.”
“I’ll be Grandma!” another girl shouted mischievously—and just like that, my NPC was history.
The two launched into a sweet and hilarious conversation while the rest of the class burst into laughter.
And then the unexpected happened.
The girl playing Grandma guessed the right umbrella. My heart leapt.
And the strategic student who had been so careful all game looked at her classmate and declared:
“We choose the birdcage-shaped umbrella.”
